Ways To Express Gratitude (over 30 can counting!)

Published June 20, 2024

Taking a moment to acknowledge and express gratitude can have profound effects on our well-being and relationships. However, in today's busy world, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, often forgetting to pause and appreciate the little things that bring us joy.

Being thankful for things in the past, present and that have yet to arrive, helps us recognize the positive aspects of our lives, boosts our happiness and enhances relationships.

Whether you prefer to reflect privately or share your gratitude with others, there are many ways to cultivate and spread positivity.

Below is a list of ways to both capture your moments of gratitude and share them with the world.

The list is split up into three categories: think it, capture it, share it.

[I created these three categories as I built the PEP process for cultivating gratitude that I created you can learn more about the PEP process here.]

Think it

When you "Think it" you take time to silently reflect and feel the warmth of gratitude.

Here are some things you could do as you think about your gratitude:

  • Look around you
  • Close your eyes
  • Sit up
  • Lay down
  • Stay still
  • Move your body (walk, dance, run)
  • Breathe deeply

Record it

When you "Record it", you record your answers in a tangible way to help you fully immerse yourself in the feelings of gratitude. When you capture your gratitude, you'll also be able to revisit it later.

Here are some things you could do to record your gratitude:

  • Write in a journal (digital or paper)
  • Record a voice memo
  • Take a photo
  • Record a video
  • Write a gratitude letter
  • Write a card (or note or post it note)
  • Create a scrapbook
  • Make a note in your calendar
  • Create a presentation or slide show
  • Create artwork (painting, drawing, sculpture)
  • Create a vision board
  • Create a blog post or article
  • Write gratitude affirmations

Share it

When you "Share it" you pass on your reflections and appreciation to another person. This helps spread the positive energy and extend the impact of your gratitude.

Here are some things you could do to share your gratitude:

  • Have a conversation with another person or a group
  • Discuss on a podcast
  • Give a card or note
  • Send a text message
  • Send an email or newsletter
  • Post on social media
  • React on social media
  • Comment on social media
  • Post a blog or article
  • Give a compliment
  • Host a gratitude party or event
  • Help another person (a random act of kindness, volunteer)

Now that you know all of these ways to express gratitude, what’s your next step?

Hopefully the list above has shown you that practicing gratitude doesn't have to be complicated. (In fact, it could be easy and fun!)

Whether you prefer to reflect quietly on your own or share your appreciation with the world, these ideas offer a variety of ways to integrate gratitude into your daily life.

By making gratitude a habit, you can cultivate a more positive mindset and spread joy to those around you.
